In order to prepare students for success in college, Framingham High School uses MLA format as our standard citation style. MLA is the Modern Language Association, an international organization for professors and teachers of the humanities. They have agreed upon a standard way of citing sources in research papers; this style is typically used in humanities classes in North American colleges.
The FHS English Department's Research Guide (see box below) gives students a full explanation of the details of MLA citation style.
This guide was developed by the FHS English Department. You should receive a hard copy from your English teacher during your freshman year. It will give you the basics that you need in order to correctly cite information from the most commonly used types of sources. If you have a specific question that is not covered in this booklet, ask your teacher or Ms. Courchesne in the Library, and we will help you figure out how to cite it correctly.
NoodleTools is a software that FHS has subscribed to in order to help students manage their research process and MLA format. NoodleTools also helps you keep your notes, sources, outline, and paper organized in one place online, accessible from anywhere.
This interactive 5-question video quiz lets you test yourself on how well you can spot examples of correctly cited sources or plagiarism.
